John Paul DeJoria co-founded Paul Mitchell in 1980 and helped turn it into the world's largest privately owned salon haircare company. He went on to co-found Patrón Spirits Company, John Paul Pet & Aubio — all companies with high ethical standards and reputations for integrity.
John Paul signed the Giving Pledge in 2011 as a formal promise to continue giving back. That same year, he founded JP’s Peace, Love and Happiness Foundation with his family to invest in charities that share the core values of his companies -- sustainability, social responsibility and animal-friendliness. Together, the DeJorias are committed to contributing to a sustainable planet through investing in people, protecting animals and conserving the environment.
Based in Austin, Texas, the foundation has global reach through partners located around the world. The investments of the foundation are driven by the unique interests and personal relationships of the DeJoria family. John Paul supports veterans' causes, protects waterways and animals and helped to build an innovative community with Mobile Loaves & Fishes for people struggling with homelessness, as he once did. He also created and funds Grow Appalachia — the largest program of its kind in the United States that has partnered with more than 5,300 families to grow 3.4 million pounds of food throughout the Appalachian region.
Eloise DeJoria uses her time and talent to help people lead healthy, fulfilled lives. She focuses her philanthropic efforts on recovery programs, the arts and promoting the wellbeing of women and girls.
Alexis DeJoria, who recently retired from NHRA racing, is passionate about the environment and animal conservation.
Constance Dykhuizen is the foundation's founding executive director. She manages partnerships and grants.
